I need you all's help! I received a couple FIENDS today contributing to my Caesar 12 project. I have but one to capture - Otho. However, I need to garner opinions and your VOTES since I espouse the Roman Res Publica rather the tyrannical Empire. FREE or keep them in SLAB? GALBA: CALIGULA: I already KNOW what my Vote is... FREEDOM or SLAB??? It is a SCARY thought... Thank you for your votes and opinions! And please feel free to post / boast your Galbas and Caligulas!
I collect early US coins and don't like my coins in slabs. Why on earth would anyone pay the fee to get an ancient slabbed? They don't really need the protection of the slab and they don't even guarantee authenticity. Freedom!
Too late to vote as usual but neither strikes me as a high demand coin to the ancient crowd so leave them in the slabs, sell them and buy nicer coins raw from a dealer you trust.
Slabs are asinine and have taken the fun out of collecting modern coins - because now we have to care about the coin's "mark" out of 70. This has created artificial rarities of coins that are very common - "Rare in MS65" being a term I've seen to describe a coin that isn't actually rare at all. And an MS66? Even rarer! What a load of baloney. No room for appreciation of art and history at all, it's now a boring investment and OCD exercise. Fortunately the practice hasn't metastasized too much to ancients. My Galba and Caligula btw:
OMG, the Elections are NOT rigged! This is a RUNAWAY vote: It is more than clear that they MUST BE FREED!!! LOL, it did not matter: I already told you that I had made up my mind... I was gonna FREE them ANYWAY! And, since this is my 1000th message on CoinTalk, I reckon the site will award me an official YAKKER on CoinTalk... And thank you for putting up with me over these 1000 messages... I loved everyone's votes and opinions... I loved @Magnus Maximus pic, cuz I am half Scot... But @red_spork made me bust out LAUGHING! Regardless, here are the Freed FRIENDS. They ain't purdy, but they are MINE! Hey, and I freed them with my VISE method! Wow, tried the knife twisting trick, tried the hammer, tried other ideas... If you have a wide enough VISE, this is the easiest method that I have used! Easy! Best of all: BLISS...they are FREE!!!
The best way I've found to get your coin out of a slab is to hold it perpendicular on its side edge against the cement and crack it on the opposite side edge with a hammer. 2 whacks and it's usually free.
