And I made out pretty good. :kewl: I bought some more lincolns for my VF/XF set, three more holes filled. Here's what I got: 26 S wheat cent (possible VF? Have you guys help me out with it) $7 18 P possible XF 28 S VF-30/35 Got the 18 P and 28 S for only $5 for the both of them. I think I did pretty good, got a semi-key lincoln knocked out, and didn't have to shell out a lot of money. I kind of used what I've learned off of here to help me snag these. The 26 S is known for it's weak strikes, and the dealer there will only mark a cent VF if it has full detail in the hair. So I can pretty much pick up some nice VF coins at F prices. :kewl: The 26 S though I'm on the fence about, all help will be appreciated with it. Still like it though, it is a nice coin, and don't think I did too bad at $7. The 18 P is a real nice one, nice strike and everything, nice for my set. The 28 S was a pretty decent, only had it marked VG, and it is an easy VF in my books, but I could be wrong. If you guys don't mind me asking, what are the grey sheet prices for these guys? Also, I've included pics for you guys to judge for yourselves. Thanks. Either way though with them, I had fun today, and am a few steps closer with my set. Here are the pics: Phoenix
Looks like you did good again today and you did real good on that 26-S !!!!! 18=49.5 ( no luster ) 28-s=20 26-s=20 and well struck, full wheat on a 26-s...right on !!
Nice man, your high grade set is getting there, little by little, but its getting there. Youll have to give me an updated list of what you are still looking for. Ill do some hunting for you.
Those were great buys. I really like your pictures - it's like you're looking at the real coin. What are you using/doing to get that. If you've already posted this info, please give me the link or PM me - otherwise let us know how you do it!!! I like those pictures!
Thanks for all the replies! They are some nice looking cents. Look nice in my book. Pokee Change, Thanks! I haven't really posted the info before, but I can here. I don't really do anything special, I just put them on the mattress of my bed, put my quality on it's lowest, then put it in macro, and zoom as much as it lets me. I also use a flash. Sometimes I experiment with a few angles till I get it just right. I try to get it to look like the coin exactly in hand, or close to it. That way I can get close to the same opinions as if everyone was looking at it in there hand. Thanks for the comments, and I hope this helps! Phoenix
Nice coins and decent prices. Used to have a flea market around here with from 4 to 7 coin dealers. It closed a few years back. Now the one left there is two coin dealers. One is way, way to high in prices. The other one USED to be fantastically low on all coins. Now he finally bought a price guide. But I did OK before that. Now he too is way, way to high.
pretty good prices. Although, I have to brag, I got my 1918-p for only 15 cents (not as good condition though) I dont have a 28-s though. At my coin shop, he has a big bucket of wheat cents, all .15 each. He says I can take out what I like, and it doesnt matter the date, it'll be .15 But anyways, nice job :thumb:
Thanks everyone! Magman, I don't want to sound better or anything, please don't take it as that, but my dealer does something similiar, has a tool box full, and he only charges 5 cents each. That sounds like a pretty sweet deal though too. What dates have you gotten? Man, I better be careful though, then everyone will be wanting to know where my dealer is. Lol, I wouldn't care that much though. Thanks for all the replies and comments! Phoenix
oh yeah?! Well, my OTHER dealer sells them for 3 cents each!! lol, JK. Thats pretty good though. Ive gotten some nice things from that bucket thing. Ive only done it once (and I spent long enough) but I found: 1918P, 1931P, 1932P, 1934D, 1909, 1912, 1912D, and a few others from 1917 and 1927. I'll probably go back next month or so, fill up some more holes in my Whitman Folder
