The coins are real and silver. The tray is red and virtual. So beautiful.. Who said Numismatic is not art above all ??
Gorgeous work @Deacon Ray ! You should look at the Commercial Graphics industry as a vocation! I am amazed at how quickly you were able to flip and place the coins within the same snapshot!!! FLASH!
Total boss! Is the bottom right also a Judea Capta? Erin Ps. Mr Rogers reminded me to tell y’all that I’m proud of you!
@David Atherton Hi Erin, Thank you for the kind comments! The coin in the lower right is believed by many to be a Titus Judaea Capta. There is however an alternate and fascinating theory that it could actually be a Britain Capta.
Here's something different. Although I sold most my China collection years ago, I kept a tray of nice or interesting things (not as good as Ray's work):
Magnificent display, consistent with other coins you have posted from time to time! I particularly like the "whole holed holy" one in the lower left! (Sorry, I just really couldn't help myself! I feel bad doing that on an ancients thread.) I enjoy very much the ancients threads in general, & don't know why it's taking me so long to....oh wait a minute, yes I do. There are so many fascinating areas & just when I decide to focus on one, something else piques my interest. This is MUCH different than anything "post ancient"! I expect to make the leap soon.
To be honest, no one really knows what the reverse refers to. Mattingly in BMCRE II ascribes it to a victory in Britain, which makes more sense in the context of the issue.
Now I feel guilty thinking the tray was creative photo manipulation when it was really a new product by an Abfil competitor and superhuman dexterity. I am no fan of shooting a whole tray as it sits. I do like the displays you have pieced together on related coins but not on red velvet. This seems like a lot of work. I might suggest building a smaller tray and leaving out the non-Vespasians. Challenge: Design a good looking tray that will accept denarii/aurei and four denominations of bronzes to proper scale arranged in an attractive manner. Getting Abfil to build them for you will be much harder but you skills show that the mind is easier to mold than wood and plastic.
Very clever @Deacon Ray ! And amazing collection ! Here's my "Nero to Trajan" tray as it would have appeared c. 2011 (some changes occured since) Q
Awesome virtual tray!! I must admit, it gives me the heebie jeebies a bit, though. I can't help imagining the two coins in each slot clacking into each other. Can you put in a safety gate?
