Vindo- in Early Place Names (Anthony Durham)

    I just came across this interesting article on the origin of the common Roman name prefix Vindo-, that overturns the conventional wisdom of meaning "white", and by geographic analysis finds it more likely to mean "river plain" and/or meandering/winding river (the two go hand in hand).

    The summary article is written in a non-academic style that will no doubt annoy some, but the thesis seems well researched and convincing.
