I just came across this interesting article on the origin of the common Roman name prefix Vindo-, that overturns the conventional wisdom of meaning "white", and by geographic analysis finds it more likely to mean "river plain" and/or meandering/winding river (the two go hand in hand). The summary article is here: https://www.academia.edu/62075734/Vindo_in_Early_Place_Names And there's a much more comprehensive analysis of many such names here. http://www.romaneranames.uk/v/vindo.pdf The summary article is written in a non-academic style that will no doubt annoy some, but the thesis seems well researched and convincing.
