Old coins got around in amazing ways. Silver dirhams minted in the Islamic world around the year AD 1000 have been found in Scandinavian countries along with in England and Ireland. Some of these coins were minted in the mountains of Afghanistan. The Vikings got the coins in trade from Arabs at trading posts in Russia.
