For those of you in the Wash, DC, area (and anyone else interested), the quarterly Vienna, VA, coin (and stamp) show will be 1 & 2 May. There will be something in the neighborhood of 30 dealers. Tends to be crowded.
Yep, I went, but all I got were three IHC's that MFD had for me. And I got the latest Presidential dollar for a friend. Most of my wantlist is made up of items that you generally don't see at the smaller shows. Nope, didn't go to the Alexandria show. Didn't even know about it. The only other local show I got to is the one at NOVA. I went out to the Hagerstown show once but that was dual purpose. The wife wanted to stop at a fabric place out that way. I stick mostly to the 3 Baltimore shows but went to the Philly show last year.
Thanks for the info. The Alexandria show is [relatively] new; it is organized by the Alexandria Coin Club. It sounds like it was about the same size as the Vienna show. I hadn't expected to find anything at the Alexandria show given my interests, yet I acquired 6 Pre-Federal specimens.
I didn't go to the vienna show but I did go waste my time at the Alexandria show....the dealers wouldn't even talk to me since I was young.
You sure about that? I'm in my later 30's yet look a lot younger. I brought a few my own choice Colonial specimens with me to wave around, and most of the wheelchair-bound geriatric dealers had to get oxygen infusions while fighting for my business.
I'm trying to slow my buying down so that I can save up for the Baltimore Whitman show in mid-June. MFD already has one IHC set aside for me and he still has the Summer FUN and Long Beach shows to go to. All my money may be spoken for before I even get there Another dealer has a 1794 cent he's getting slabbed for me, but it's already paid for. At the rate he's going (2 months already) I'll probably pick it up at the Baltimore show too.
I am 27 and look 23/24. I found a Roosevelt in a case and the dealer took it out of the case but he wouldn't even let me hold it. I guess he figured I could afford the $1200 coin.
I'm on the other end of the age scale. I'm 68 and look ... well, like something Barring difficulties I will be there at my usual time, 10AM on Friday, 18 June. One of the advantages of being retired. I can usually do what I have to do, then run the floor looking for wantlist items, then be out the door by 1PM at the latest.
