    Hi Tholath,

The strait in question is the Strait of Malacca. The Straits Settlements were small colonies (presumbly originally colonies of British India) on the coast of the Malay Peninsula. Of the Settlements, Singapore became independent in its own right; the others became parts of Malaysia.

    Later,

    John

The Straits coin in question is from the British crown administration. Prior to 1867 it was governed by the British East India Company.
