Hey CoinTalkers! I just need a little assistance on some places where I may be able to find an 1876 VF30 (preferably PCGS) 20 cent piece. This is a lesser minted year 20c. piece and I am unable to find it in the grade I am willing to purchase it in. None on ebay (EVER!), None at local shops, None at recent coin shows...So, I am pretty much running out of places to look. If anyone has any better ideas of where i might get this coin for a fair price somewhat soon, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Alot Guys & Gals, -Brian
Good Luck with that PCGS has only graded 16 at that level out of a total of 511 that they have graded
well I found a couple by PCGS..but in PF63...http://www.ha.com/common/search_res...94+791+792+2088+51+4294967000&Ntt=twenty+cent
Here ya go, pick your poison http://www.collectorscorner.com/Category/Category.aspx?catId=705&pId=10 If you decide to go with any of them, when you contact the dealer most will negotiate on price but not all.
Here's another thought. I would set up a wantlist for Heritage (www.ha.com) and Teletrade (www.teletrade.com). Both will send you an e-mail when they get a "hit".
Just because you had one bad experience with Heritage, doesn't mean they're a "rip-off". There are plenty of people on here (myself included) who have nothing but good things to say about Heritage.
I'll go through the details, I bought a Matte Proof Lincoln cent from them for $587 with bp. I got it in the mail fast and easy, no problem there. I cracked it out of the slab it was in since the slab was pretty old and sent it off to NGC. Then they say it had PVC damage. So I had to put more than $150 more just to get it cleaned. I emailed Heritage and they never responded, even after 2 emails. That's alright though, they took my money and gave me a piece of crap coin that's now worth a whole lot less. They may never see me again, I MIGHT return for another coin in the future. Now, if I'm going to buy any rare coin, I'll go to a coin show. Sure Heritage is a huge auctioneer, but still, they couldn't spot the PVC on my coin. And they never noted it had PVC. And, this is the only time I have bought off of Heritage. I loved their fast shipping, but only if that coin didn't have any PVC. I'm heart-broken over that MPL.
That was your mistake. Once you crack a coin out of a slab you are on your own. Why should the entire burden be on Heritage? Apparently you missed the PVC, too.
Why should the entire burden be on Heritage? Apparently you missed the PVC, too.[/QUOTE] I didn't know how to spot PVC at the time, and I wasn't expecting the coin to have PVC. Plus, Heritage was the one auctioning off the coin. They had to have examined the coin (like they should do with every coin). How many times has Heritage auctioned off PVC damaged coins? Probably more than once. Plus even if I didn't crack it out, I still would've gotten burnt. It had a 7 day return for a refund. But the coin looked fine, I felt this coin could receive a higher grade, so I decided to send it off to NGC, which then found out about 3 weeks later that it had PVC on it. I am sorry to have pulled this all off of topic. This discussion on my experience is going to stop, I got burned on Heritage. Leave it that. Of course I made a mistake too like hobo said, the coin still had PVC. Maybe Heritage....just maybe in the future when I get over this.
Why don't you post the link to the coin you bought.so we can see if we can spot it on their photo's. It wouldn't be feasible to look at 20,000 coins that are already graded. So in your theory the original company is more guilty than Ha would be as they missed it first.
VF 30 1876 20c.... that's funny, I have been looking for the same coin in VG. I refuse to go on collectors corner because they are way overpriced, so I guess I'll just have to wait for an auction on ebay to turn up.
Yeah, I think that was where it was. I sent the coin back in the NCS to have it removed and conserved. The coin itself looks nice, but NGC still didn't attach a grade to it. Now they say it has altered color. So that leaves me to believe it was dipped in acetone.
