I picked up an interesting Vespasian bronze coin at the Houston Fall coin show yesterday. There is still time to make a trip to the show today, Sat 11/3. (see coinzip for directions) I saw this coin for pocket change and had to have it. It is my first bronze of Vespasian. I have not found the RIC number yet, but it is (to quote @dougsmit ) it is an emperor with someone standing on the back. A quick read of the obverse: ..CAESARVESPASIANAVGCOS... (maybe IX or X)... Rev - I can see someone standing with what looks like a hand and dish over an alter to the left(??), something at an angle to the right and SC. 11.6 grams 26.7 X 27.5 mm Post your big Vespasians. Some of things I did not buy:
Nice portrait. Probably a dupodius. Reverse looks like Fortuna. Something like this https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=1099518
No, Fortuna holds a cornucopiae. This one holds a branch and caduceus, I think. Probably a dupondius, AD 72. IMP CAESAR VESPASIAN AVG COS IIII, radiate head right/PAX AVG, Pax standing l., holding patera over altar, branch and caduceus; in field, S - C. RIC II 1191.
You guys were too quick this morning . I was just laboring over an identification post. I thought it was an as of Titus or Vespasian, Pax reverse.
Yeah hard to tell. To me it looks like a cornucopia but you may be right, it does look like an alter on the left. But the OP's coin doesn't look radiate
