I know some of you have seen this coin way, way back when, but I thought it could use a second introduction :D. This is coin numero 5 in order of acquisition, my first ever denarius, and my first of the Twelve Caesars, purchased in Sept 2011. It's one of the most special coins in my collection :smile

    Vespasian AR denarius

Obv: IMP CAESAR VESPASIANVS AVG, laureate head right
Rev: PONT MAX TR P COS V, emperor seated right, holding branch and scepter
    Rome mint, 74 AD
    RIC 702

I have several Vespasian coins, but now that I look at them, I find I do not have any that are in very good condition like the OP coin. Here is one of my best (hmmm, I think I may have to have a look around for a new Vespasian when I get out of jail):

    Denarius
OBV: IMP CAESAR VESP AVG, laureate head right
REV: PONTIF MAXIM, Vespasian seated right, holding branch and sceptre
    Struck at Rome, 74 AD
    3.4g, 19mm
    RIC 685

Great coins guys. Don't you think Vespasian looks like a grumpy old fart?

(That's my thoroughly researched, highly erudite numismatic contribution.)

Speaking of Vespasian, here's a nice little fresco depicting life in ancient Rome. You're welcome. :)

Hmmm?, thanks JA ... yah, it kinda takes the whole "wow" outta livin' in those times, eh?

Ummm, is that a railway line for getting rid of the poop, or merely tile style-points? (hey, being a mining engineer, I could have been part of the great Roman Poop Railway!!) ..... that puts a bit more "wow" back in the play!!

You mean the lines in the middle of the Room Steve?

Those are lines of water... they would put the sponges (which were on sticks) in there and use it to clean their bums after going to the washroom... old school toilet paper!
