I had bought on eBay 5 rolls of wheat cents. The package arrived today. But there were no coins as the package (bubble mailer) had a hole in it! I am out $24.95! I would have thought a box would have been better suited for that many coin rolls and not a bubble mailer! I didn't purchase any insurance. Never would have dreamed I would ever need it. I have just mailed the seller explaining the situation so I have to wait and see what will happen. I'm not sure what coverage I have as I used PayPal for this purchase. Waaaah!!! David
I wouldn't be surprised if the seller sent you an empty mailer with a hole in it. There are people who will capitalize on such things.
Look at the amount of postage on it. Is it post office generated label postage? I once bought a rare US Navy rating badge from a company in Holland named Pot Military! Needless to say when the padded package arrived here it was torn on the bottom and empty. Someone in the system likely just could not resist. After much consternation he sent my money back.
The package was a printed label from PayPal it looks like and it was free shipping and the package says USPS Priority Mail.
I see, with a flat rate priority package the Post Office would not care and would only charge priority postage. But if it is in a regular envelope are there stamps on it or did the post office put one of their postage labels on it. The postage should be well over $4. in the latter case. Not hardly worth burning you for such a small amount as the Postal Inspectors could get involved and it just would not be worth it. The Post Office does have a pretty good lost and found section but they did not find my lost goods from Pot.
I'm not sure even if PayPals seller/buyer protection would cover this or not. After all I didn't recieve the goods I paid for.
When I print lables at home I have the option to not have the postage shown on the lable. Using Paypal to print your lables it costs $4.05 & it gives the seller free delivery confirmation. If the seller put it in a bubble mailer it could have been "felt out " as rolls of coins by the weight & size by some unscruplous employee & may have been kifed . Or the guy may have took advantage of you. Either way I think unfortunatley you may be out you money. The delivery confirmation leans it to his favor too much, now its his word against yours.
It weighed a pound and 2/3 and would not have gone flat rate unless in a flat rate post office cardboard envelope. What you are saying is that it does not print the actual amount of postage on the label, I notice UPS is like that. Take the label to the post office and ask how much the label equals in postage, ie. did it cover a pound and 2/3. No one in their right mind would have spent that much on postage and then yonced you for $25.
As long as you put Priorty mail tape & or ; a Priorty lable on it,it can go in anything. It will ship out for that price of $4.05 but once it gets to 2 lbs it goes up to $8.10. Thats The USPS. Also in the past I have seen people put a flat rate price up & send it anyway they want Priority, flat rate, just a stamp ...
I can be wrong but I went to the USPS site and used two random zip codes for 1 pound and 10 ounces and got this. Express Mail® Overnight to most areas $18.80 Priority Mail® 2 Day(s) $5.15 Parcel Post Additional Postage May Apply 4 Day(s) $4.36 Bound Printed Matter Restrictions Apply 4 Day(s) $2.28 Media Mail (Book Rate) Restrictions Apply 4 Day(s) $2.07
Your right , I must be referancing something I sent out today. Sorry . Brain Fart- Its late. Using a flat rate box & 2lbs 10 oz its comes out to $8.10 on Paypal when I print my lable. What I sent out today was a bit lager than what I usually do- Regaurdless- $5.15 . Is the most that seller probably paid for that shipping.
Insurance is for the seller's protection, not your's. It doesn't matter whether you buy it, or not. The fact is, you didn't receive your purchase. I looked at the auction, and the seller's feedback. Looks OK, just a few buyers who were surprised that they got common dates. LOL You paid with a credit card, right? You're covered. Just do a chargeback.
Just one more reason I never buy from ebay. The cost of these cents were almost $5 per roll or about 0.!0 per coin. If these were just Lincoln Cents, wheat backs, common dates, you overpaid in the first place by quite a lot. Sad but possibly a lesson well learned. As already stated, it is now your word against the seller that coins were actually shipped.
Yep, I paid with a credit card using PayPal. My feedback is 100% and the sellers feedback is 100%. I've never had this happen before.
I could always leave a negative feedback if it comes to that. Maybe its not entirely his fault however, but it should have been packaged more secure.
Call the Post Office lost and found, they have a phone number, and relax. Negative feedback is forever. Give the guy a chance to make up for his mistake of not packing it more securely. I am about to send you $25. just to hush this. Stuff happens. When he sends you a neg back it will be with you always. There is no proof you did not get the coins.
If the seller can prove that they took reasonable care in mailing it and the buyer declined insurance, the buyer is out of luck. There is a contract between the buyer and seller and terms are agreed upon. One of those terms is that if the buyer does not buy insurance, they hold the seller harmless if the item arrives damaged or doesn't arrive at all. Having said that, whether PayPal rules in the favor of the buyer is another matter. They seem to like to take the side of the buyer. And risk losing your PayPal account. Also, chargebacks only work with some credit cards and PayPal. I believe that it is Discover card that views PayPal as the merchant and not the actual seller and you are out of luck trying to do a cheageback.
Like I said, I'm not going to take any action until I get a repsonse from the seller. From that moment will determine what actions I will take.
