Help-Found this searching cent rolls for wheats, it appears to be an ancient, very worn but date visible. I don't know if you guys can see it on the scan, it says DIA(dime?) and under that 1681. I'm no expert but darned if this doesn’t look like a hand pressed coin, the date numbers are uneven and the coin overall has a very old look and feel. Is it possible this guy is 328 yrs old? Any thoughts appreciated. /
Dont know what it is, maybe a token? Maybe colonial? Im sure someone here knows. All I can say is neat find! That and clean your scanner once in awhile, hee hee.
rotate the bottom image 90 degrees right. Its a 1631 duit of the Dutch colony of Zeelandia, on the island of Taiwain. compare: http://cgi.ebay.com.sg/1631-NETHERLANDS-ZEELANDIA-COIN_W0QQitemZ150329727062QQihZ005QQcategoryZ45154QQcmdZViewItem http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fort_Zeelandia_(Taiwan)
I jumped the gun a bit - its not Taiwan, but Zeelandia province, from the southern part of the Netherlands. I was close! Lol, 1681 - KM #55
Fascinating, thanks for the info and links, Wow that’s one long journey, 1681 zeelandia to 2009 CA. I rescanned a close up of the date, it still looks like an 8 to me. Either way hands down the oldest and definitely most interesting find in my searches. ID like to get an idea of the value, I suspect it's not worth much do to condition but it's exciting to hold and wonder what this coin has seen in it's lifetime. I have a fairly decent collection of modern US coins but this is something special regardless of monetary value.
You should send a report to Coin World so your find can get mentioned in the "Found In Rolls" column.
Cool Find :thumb: I wonder why would anyone put it in a cent roll. Isn't it obvious that a stuff that looks this odd and old would be definitely worth more than a cent.
