Just wondering what anyone here thinks this coin might be worth. It is a 20 Bolivar gold coin from Venezuela, 6.45g Au, 1912. Attached some photos. I think it looks kinda nice.
Verrrrrry nice. :thumb: Depending on how much (if any) luster is visible, I think you have at least an AU58, and possibly up to an MS64' which would indicate a catalog value somewhere around the $125 Krause gives for an uncirculated example of Y#32. As indicated on the coin itself, it was struck in .900 gold and at a weight of 6.4516g it has an AGW of .1867, for a current bullion value in the $116 range. At current gold prices I suspect that the Krause values are on the low side, but my only South American coins are in my OFEC set, so I am extremely ignorant of current pricing. If I'm reading the notes in Krause correctly, you have a Type 1, with the torch privy mark of the Paris Mint being well below the bust truncation. Krause does not indicate any value difference among the three types and does not indicate how much of the 150,000 mintage may fall into each type.
Thanks for the info, satootoko, I appreciate your time to look that one up. I don't know much about South American gold coins, but this one caught my interest.
