Today I was at my store on lunch break by their vending machines. I had some dimes and quarters on me, so I got the bright idea of sticking them into the machine and then hitting the "return change" button. Sure enough, it worked and I kept getting different coins each time (originally I had thought it would just return the same coin I put in.) I was able to get 3 1967 quarters, 2 1965 quarters, 1 bicentennial quarter, and 1 1965 dime. I know those coins aren't really worth much more than their face value, but hey if you like older coins like I do, then 40ish year old coins aren't a bad piece for the collection. Just thought I'd share. It's a cool new way for me to hunt down coins.
I've quit doing that because the return doesn't work-- you'd have to actually buy something. I used to do what you did, then I used it as a CoinStar-- put a bunch of dimes in and get quarters back.
i do that all the time. once i put in a 2003 nickel or somthing and got back a 1940! i do that alot with quarters too. i got 1965, 1966, 67 all the way up to 69. it is an excellent way in my opinion too find old coins. happy hunting!
