so today i went to get some gobstoppers and the machine was yelling at me to use exact change instead of my dollar bill. So I hit the change return button and i got mad i hit it like 3 times cuz it only gave me 1 coin so i finally picked it up and it turns out it was a 1980 Susan B. Anthony dollar coin in really nice condition :smile so that made my day.
I have a Machine at work for Change.. it ONLY gives out Dollars.. I got 4 2009 Sac's today and I get SBA's out of it all day too.. I don't collect them.. but have a nice pile so far.. Anything Special I might want to look for? I was waiting till I had 100 of them then was going to go to Ebay with them.. But if they have a Variety that has a good Value.. well I want to know.. AND KEEP
Nice, on the SBA $ but, what's a gobstopper? I'm guessing some candy, so now I've got to find one. Bruce
Everlasting Gobstopper is based on Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory movie. Cool find of the SBA. More interesting if that vending machine does not accept them. Could mean somebody tried to use the SBA and failed. TC
Roald Dahl was basing that on a popular type of sweet or 'candy' in Britain during his childhood, and to a lesser extent today. 'Gob' is British slang for 'mouth'. A common phrase used for telling someone to shut up is 'shut your gob' (although these days a coarse anglo-saxon word ending in 'ing' is often used between the 'your' and the 'gob' when this phrase is now used). You can't talk much when you are sucking one of these sweets, therefore its a 'gobstopper'...
A vending machine at my work spits out dollar coins, especially when you put in a $5 bill and hit the return change button. I've filled some holes in my Presidential dollar collection this way, as well as getting some SBA coins I needed.
