I bought one and decided to open it for fun. It weighed 66 grams so I figured it was a Morgan. Kind of disappointed but I don't have an example of this one. But it is a VAM 223 which is a Top 100 Morgan VAM. The L in Liberty is washed out. Overpaid overall but it will go nicely in my Morgan set.
That's part of the gamble-sometimes you win and many times you lose. One thing that I have noticed with vaultbox coins lately is that the eye appeal appears to be so-so at best (i.e. "C" level for the grade). Has anyone else noticed this?
I do not like this new NGCX vaultbox grading system. What exactly is the point of that? Am I alone in this opinion?
It's the same grading system, it's just a gimmick. My coin above graded 8.3, which is the same AU-53. Another example would be if something graded 9.4 then it is MS-64. NGC literally says so.
It's supposed to align with the grading for currency, baseball cards, etc. I don't see the point myself but I suppose there are collectors who like everything graded the same.
