How to you guys sort through VAMs?
I have 2 or 3 1900-O and you would not believe how many are listed on VAM World. 109 to be exact, how do I best go about finding which one matches my coin?

It takes time because you need to compare any and all markers applicable to each VAM. That is why some people call them (affectionately) VAMpires.

By the way, if you think that your 1900-O is bad, stay away from the 1921 "Scribbles".

I agree with the dracula toothed fella above.
I just did this this morning after seeing some very identifiable die cracks and repunched mintmarks while shooting a video of new acquisitions. Found very differing 84-Os and 86 Ps. The 84s are VAM 1A, VAM 13 and VAM 14, 1886 is VAM 6B and 1887 is VAM 10A. I found their descriptions and pictures very easy to match.
Here are a few nifty pics with the VAM 6B identifiers - 1886 VAM 6B Neck clash + die break thru date.jpg 1886 VAM 1C-clashed Vs.jpg 1886 VAM 1C close.jpg 1886 Railroad die cracks VAM 6B.jpg 1886 Die clash through hat VAM 6B.jpg

More pics of the other VAMS, O/O centered high, doubled tail feathers etc, but I won't bore you more.

That's why they are VAM's. All slightly different so all you can do is carefully search each listed variety until you find a match. Best wishes.
