A friend is going to sell his small collection of Morgan Silver dollars that he has had since he was a kid (25 to 30 coins). Any ideas on how to figure out a fair value for his collection?

You would have to determine what the grades are for each coin. In focus photos of both sides of each would help in determining the grades of each coin. Do not clean any of these coins or it will kill their value. If you are handling coins hold coins on the edge of the coins not to leave finger prints on the coins.

Are you a collector? Are you familiar with Morgans at all?

With that amount of coins, the value could range from, let's say $600 (30 coins X $20 avg. per coin) to thousands of $, merely based on slight differences in condition, grade, etc.

You don't want to over pay, & I suspect, don't want to cheat your friend. Therefore, it is imperative that you have these looked at (perhaps take them to a dealer for appraisal) by someone in the know...it may take a week or so, but for that many coins, it will be worth it. You can probably do that here, but only post 1 coin per thread & make sure you have really good pictures of both the obverse & reverse of each coin.

And as @spirityoda mentioned, be very careful how you handle them.

    God luck!
