Value on a set?

I have this set of 1971 coins and FRN w/ serial ending 1971 (series 1969). All of it is Uncirculated at least, with 1 being known Proof.

So I am wandering how much does a set like this affect the value of the individual coins/bills? What do you think the overall value is?

Also, how archival do you think this plastic from the 70's is?

PS, its invaluable to me, my Grandfather gave it to me the day I was born :thumb:

i think it's cool looking. i remember those plastic holders with the plastic screws as I was a coin collecting kid back in the late 1960s and early 1970s. it might turn out that the star $1 with a serial ending in 1971 might be the most valuable item? i would just frame the thing and hang it on my wall! (b.t.w. why are some of the coins rotated so badly?)

They seem to be a tad loose in the plastic, so they rotated over the years. I'm thinking about separating the pieces and straightening them out, maybe even replacing the FRN's plastic protector with a modern mylar one.

I don't know about the coins. Nice birthday note, though. 03171971. Saint Patrick's Day at that! What is it that has been scratched/blacked out?

Just personal information, nothing about the coins/note.

Hey neat! I never thought to look up the serial as an actual date.

Book value on the note is $8 in 63 maybe add a couple dollars to that because its a bday note.
Magazine value for a 71 mint set is $3.
Melt on the 40% silver dollar maybe 8 to 10 dollars.

FYI the $1 is 1st year of the new treasury seal.

As for the plastic being "archival" or not, so far so good. Forty years and the coins and note seem to be untouched.

You are right, I guess the proof is in the pudding as they say.
