Edit the language out of the photo and you can use it Saw this post on reddit and people are freaking out on how the note is worth up to 4x face value. Jn this condition, I don’t see much of a premium at all. What say you?
Would be a very fun conversation piece to keep in a wallet or something. Other than that the thing has been to hell and back; I don't see it having a huge premium.
I'm with you. Face value alone is an awful lot to tie up in an item like this. I'd love to have a $500 or $1000 note, but not enough to tie up that much money in it, given all the work that amount of money could do for me elsewhere.
Not too long ago a note in that condition wouldn't even bring $1200. But the values for the large denomination notes had a really nice appreciation run the last 20 years. I'm not sure what the value is now, but it's not $4000. To me even $1500 would be too high because the condition is atrocious. $1200 is over priced but fair. Anyone touting the high value of this note doesn't know anything.
That’s what I figured. Reddit is filled with people who quote the first google results. I tried to be the voice of reason but nobody listens to me and now like 100k people thing this note is worth MUCH more than FV... which it’s not...
I thought no more than 1200 at the HIGHEST. That condition it would be hard to get 1100 in my opinion
Even in its condition, the note might fetch $1,200 - $1,400. Heritage auction results, https://currency.ha.com/c/search-re...t=1934a+$1000&ic4=Refine-CurrencyGrade-102615
I agree it might get that price as mentioned above, but it's really in the $1100-$1200 value range because of putrid condition. I agree that prices have gone up, but there still needs to be a line between reality and insanity.
Looks like its been through the washer a million times, a good way to fake items, age them artificially...LOL
The one from the OP is from Series 1934A while the one you have shown is the somewhat less common Series 1934 and is known as the light green or lime variety.
How would such a high denomination note get in such a state? Can't imagine it being tendered many times.
I was questioning the background on the portrait and the lower borders of the 1000. Doesn't appear to just be pixelation in my opinion.
That effect happens when imaging many close, small lines in low resolution. It would look normal at a higher resolution.
I was also thinking it was in someone's wallet for over 50 years. And so just time and humidity, and other physical factors wore it down.
I was thinking that maybe a mouse got ahold of the note at one point. It is the only thing that makes sense to me.
