I have a 1905 $20 gold liberty type 3 coin. It's in great shape and I was just wondering about the value of this coin.
"Great" shape is fairly subjective. If you can provide a picture it would be helpful in determining the grade of the coin... It's level of preservation will largely determine its value. 1905 is a good date though and is much more scarce than the 1904 and 1904-s dates. Also, any cleaning will devalue the coin but only down to the bullion value in a worst case scenario.
The best way to describe the coin is it's not in "mint condition" but is still shiny and looks like new. It has a couple of tiny scratches in it but you can barely see them. Some of the stars on the other side are a little "dirty" looking but I guess could be cleaned.
Please - do not clean the coin ! Cleaning could cut the value in half or worse. Don't even touch the surface with your fingers. Don't try to wipe it off with a cloth - don't do anything but leave it alone. And try to post a picture of the coin if you can.
Ummm....well, I'm gonna go ahead and admit that I'm not a big computer person and I have no idea on how to post a picture. Any help in that area would be appreciated.
If you have a picture or can take a digital picture of your coin - just email the picture to me - gdjmsp@qwest.net - and I'll be glad to post for you
