Hi all, came across a 1963 Georgia 10 cent fractional today for $15. The paper is crisp, but there is an old crease about 1/3 from the left; don't know if it's a fold per se, but it's definitely a slight crease. The note is fairly well-centered, no ink smudges, no pinholes or tears. Does this sound like a decent deal? Is there a catalog price for this note in, say XF/AU (which I'm guessing is what it would technically grade)? Thanks in advance. Here's a picture for reference (not the actual note in question):
Hello John.. Your fractional is actually an Obsolete note. I know that Dealer pricing in Crisp New for the 15 cent Obsolete is ~$75. SO in AU for the 10 cent (which I have no knowledge of it's History) I would estimate 15-25 dollars... Wish I had more info...they were all issued from Milledgeville...Here is a image of the 15 cent note... RickieB Image removed..placed there as a reference for John... Good luck Johnn..let us know what you find. I am looking for a Book on Obsoletes but all my sources for the book I want are sold out!
Thanks for the quick response, Ricky! I figured you'd be the first to give me an answer! After posting this, I realized it was indeed an obsolete note rather than a true U.S. fractional. They had a 25 cent note for sale as well (same Milledgeville, GA issue) and I think a 5 cent as well. All were priced at $15, but this was by far the nicest note (the 25 cent had two signatures, while this only has a hand-written serial, but like I said, the other one was in a less desirable condition). $15 sounds fair then. I check HA's currency section, and pretty well-worn examples were trading for about 6-9 dollars, but that was around 2000/2001. Mine is much nicer than those, so I think I made out OK with this note. If anyone has a catalog number and/or updated price info, please still post it!
Johnn.. I am interested and just found this link for you...check it out! http://www.rebelstatescurrency.com/georgia.html RickieB :smile
Thanks for the info! There doesn't seem to be too much out there that I can find. Here are some large photos I took. Any guess on the grade? I still say XF, due to the crease. The front of the note is very pleasing, though.
John... DO a search on Amazon for Obsolete Currency...you will find a book dedicated to Georgia Obsoletes. I was looking on Saturday when I was ordering the Schwartz/Lindquist Edition 8. Good luck, and try to get the whole set! RickieB
Ha, I'm surprised there is a whole books dedicated to Georgia obsoletes. I'll definitely check it out!
