This has a striated, V-shaped mark that obliterates the mint mark. I'm posting only the obverse view. I shot the reverse, too, but it isn't affected.
I have two guesses I going to guess that this might be a Lamination--A flaw with a fragment of metal peeled off the coin surface--if that is right it would add a little of value to the right collector...others like myself...found one in change and put it back Or it might be man made...if so just spend it. I didn't expect anything different, BUT I knew if I didn't ask for confirmation, it meant I hadn't learned a lesson that I actually have. The mark could've been the unique "signature" of some mint tool or glitch I'm not aware of, nevermind familiar with. Thanks for taking the time to look. If I'm sure of something in a field about which I know very little...that's no basis for decision! The two I thought had the least chance of being damaged in mints were the clipped ones (or are they called clips?)...and the ugly one is more interesting to my eye than the undamaged one. I REALLY enjoy the top two pennies from the same picture those were in. Those coins were each bent to the point of being concave/convex and have interesting markings, yet "retained their integrity." That's how I think of the lack of breakage in their surfaces...no pits despite all that distortion. I can still magnify the heck out of them in new scans (now that I've played with the settings on the scanner more) and look just for fun!
