    Extreme closeups.

    My guess would be grease in the die?

    :) I like it.

    Not grease, die chips. In the die the digits are cut INTO the die leaving a little pillar of metal in the center of the loops. If the pillar chips on the edge it leaves those raised lumps inside the loops on the coin.

    :D - Sorry but normal pictures didn't do the chips justice - I would have had a lot of "I don't see anything" comments.
