USPS Mail Delays ??

I have about 2.5 dozen coins with unusually long delays with no tracking info updates at all. Besides those, several other coins show updates, but they're slightly longer than I'd expect those to be. Other mail has arrived on time. I'm even getting international orders I made at a later date arriving a few days ago via USPS. USPS has been very consistent before, but recently there seems to be no rhyme or rhythm.

Is it simply USPS delays? I read that January 17 (tomorrow), the USPS is raising its postage rates. So, perhaps that's causing severe system-wide delays. But, would that long of a delay explain the number of coins from different sellers that I haven't been receiving beyond the expected timeframe? I have two coins from Canada with no shipping update after almost 2 weeks, 3 coins from 3 different sellers where the coins are nowhere to be found after almost 2 weeks, and 23 coins from one seller where the 1-day priority mail package hasn't been updated at all when it went out on Wed. January 13 and the seller is less than an hour's drive from me.

I don't think that items are actually getting lost at this frequency, or that they're getting "lost" by the same postal worker (especially since mail from all over the country is not updating). Is anyone else having the same shipping delay issues, or is it just me??

I haven't noticed actual shipping delays but the online information about the status of the shipping has fallen far behind on several occasions.

I've noticed some long delays and tracking not being recorded and updated til the day of delivery. Very noticeable difference from previous mail service.
    I hope it's just temporary.

Mine has been very slow at times also. They have added a service that gives you an email update each time the package moves. Had an EBay seller going up the wall because she needed feedback to get her money released from paypal, and I never give feedback until I see the medal.

I've recently purchased coins from California and Florida, shipped to Iowa via USPS...no issues and regular updates. I wonder if it is a regional or multi-regional issue?

USPS Priority rates go up on Monday coming up. As far as tracking goes, this mess all started around the middle of last year when tracking became free. At the same time a lot of their software was updated also. There still seem to be glitches in this. You will not see tracking sometimes for days and then all of a sudden a package just shows up at your doorstep or your customers. From what I can gather from several postmasters, the whole system has been bunged up pretty good because of so much tracking now and some P.O.s are not even doing it, especially in the very rural towns which do not have the latest technology in place. My P.O. still does postage labels one at a time from the old style machines...stick in a label and print for each and every one.

I'm seeing reports that the rates will increase starting tomorrow, Sunday, January 17. But that'll only really be noticeable for those who print labels online. Tuesday after the MLK holiday will be the day when everyone else will begin to realize an average increase of 9.5% in USPS postage rates (yikes!).

So, if you are an eBay seller, don't wait until the morning to print those labels - print them tonight!

So, that free tracking wasn't really free after all. They will always find a way to make up the loss. Seventy cents on the flat rate envelope alone!

Plus the POTUS said there is next to no inflation. I got no increase in my SS but USPS gets 9.5%. Go figure.

Snow and ice in the midwest and northeast. Spoke and hub system where many hubs are in the winter blast zone. Nothing unusual.

The USPS is still losing money. As long as it is losing money, the prices will rise.

Online first class postage rates went up huge today!

$2.04 for first class packages up to 3 oz yesterday... $2.60 today...

That's a 13.45% increase for first class! Even though the average is less than 10%, the bulk of mail goes out via first class package.

To be fair to USPS with all their faults the Canadian shippers could be a customs issue. That process isn't nearly as fast as most people think. The express ones though I personally believe one of the reasons why the express insurance was increased was so many packages were not meeting the deadline.
