I am new to coin collecting and was wondering if there would be any reason why a us proof set would be more sought after than a us silver proof set
    thanks

I collect and have them both, but some clad proof sets have some low mintages or some coins only available in them like the 1987 clad Kennedy or the 1996 W Roosevelt dime.

Also, if you are collecting from the say 1950 forward and you are collecting the run of proof sets, it's just a fact that you need the clads in the middle until they restarted making the silver proofs in 1992.

    Just some thoughts........

I generally only get the clad proofs. I get just as much satisfaction looking at a clad versus looking at a silver, and by only buying clad I've got an extra $20 to spend on different coins.

Later on though, perhaps when my income situation is a little better, I may start buying the silvers too.
