I Have Us Proof Sets Starting In 1983 Thru 1989. All Of These Sets Have Corrosion Around And On The Cent. Some Are Minor With Green Crystals Around The Edge Of The Coin, Others The Cent Is Not Recognizable As A Coin

These Set Have Been Stored With Others Ranging From 1974 To Date And These Are The Only Sets That Are Corroded.

Would Like To Have Replies From All Of You That Have Information On How To Recover The Coins And If The Us Mint Will Or Can Replace Or Repair.

THIS TAKES A BIG PART OF MY COLLECTION..

    Thanks

So...the question comes to mind on how you have been storing these sets? Sounds like humidity penetration to me..I do not think the mint would replace any since they do not make them any longer..look into safe storage..reversal is at this ponit highly unlikely :( ... Good Luck!!

Howdy athomp - Welcome to the Forum !!

I have to agree - the damage is done and cannot be undone. And no the mint will not take them back.

If I were you I would separate the undamaged coins in the damaged sets and store them individually. Then I would look for new Proof sets to replace the damaged ones. In those dates they aren't very expensive and are easy to find.

But you need to change your storage method. Coins should be stored in a cool ( not cold ), dark area where the temp remains fairly constant. And humidity is your worst enemy. So wherever you store them - always have silica gel packs in there with them to keep the moisture content in the air at a minimum.
