I have a question about mint sets. Is the value of the coins in a mint set affected when broken out and placed in collections i.e. halves, quarters, dimes and so forth? Or, is it best to collect the mint set left as is? Also, are there any albums out there for mint sets?

Howdy whyote - Welcome to the Forum !!

It depends on the individual coins - if the coins are very high grade, yes they can be worth more if sold individually. If the coins are average - the set as a whole is worth more.

Yes they do make album pages for mint sets - but they are basic plastic sleeves sized to contain the entire set as a whole.

A lot of the recent mint set coins are worth more when broken out of the
set.The 1980 mint set wholesales at a few cents over face value while the
half dollars wholesale at a dollar each and all the other coins in the set have
a small premium also. This can get pretty complicated though since a large
percentage of some mint set coins are too poor quality to sell as BU's. For
example nearly half of the 1976 t I Ikes are to beat up to sell as BU.

At some point in the future there will probably be a premium for intact sets
but ultimately these sets will trade on the combined value of the coins. If
you want to display the coins out of the set then you may as well cut them.
Otherwise leave them as they are.

I believe Eagle makes an album specifically for mint sets.
