When did the US mint officially start selling coins in rolls? I'm a little interested in roll searching due to the fact that I have one that is unopened and due to the following link: http://coins.about.com/b/2007/10/17/man-finds-44000-penny-in-fifty-cent-roll-of-coins.htm I'm not talking bank rolls, but official US mint rolls. I think the US mint started rolls in the 1930's Many of the rolls that are being sold today aren't truely unsearched, being repackaged and picked clean. Does anyone know of a place to purchase unsearched rolls? Thanks Harry
Harry, Finding someone to tell you "Here is a unsearched roll, buy it here" would be as valuable as the page this is placed on. Best place to find unsearched rolls would be your Bank IMO. You may want to visit an Estate Sale (But if you find them in an Estate Sale it would be safe to bet they were searched sometime). May the force be with you in this endeavor.
Yes Harry, I do. Original Bank Wrapped (OBW) coins are one's straight from the mint, because they're still in the bank rolls from when the bank produced them. This website, http://wayneherndon.com/whrc/home.phpcat=351&gclid=CIzs6p2D0pMCFRQEIwodqRIHjg has them. Just click on the type of coin you want, and look for the date and look for OBW, next to the date.. Goodluck collecting!
