    Hello everyone,

I had some questions about storing proof sets. I have a few and was looking into the US Mint case that they sell. Is this a worth while product for storing them in or are there any other options?

Also I have seem some e-bay auctions for selling items in OGP, including the original shipping package. Is this something that should be kept on future orders or is there no need to keep the shipping boxes they send these in?

    Thank you!!

Most collectors like having the OGP stuff, but not necessarily the plain cardboard shipping box with the buyers name & address on it.

Oh great thank you! I am new here and wanted to make sure I did not make a mistake by throwing those away , Are there any recommended storage boxes or are the ones from the Mint the only ones?

    Thank you!

I have the box the mint sells. I think it does a pretty good job. I have another box from a different company (not sure who off hand), but it's basically the same.

I don't know about the other boxes but the official Mint ones are good and get the job done. I'm satisfied with them. As for the shipping boxes, I don't see the need to keep them. Maybe some people do for some reason but otherwise just keep the OGP.

Your mint issued cases are pretty nice storage items for proof sets. But keep in mind, they are not water or moisture proof. If you live in extremely humid areas such as Florida, your coins may tone over time.

The US Mint Storage Cases are super expensive! I buy two row slab boxes and take the inserts out. Much cheaper.

Brent Kreuger at http://www.brent-krueger.com/boxes.html has a nice selection of boxes specifically for Proof and Mint Sets at 1/3 the cost of the US Mint.

I use the boxes 19Lyds linked to, although I didn't get them at brent-krueger. They are very durable and do the job nicely for me. Hope this helps!

Thanks 19Lyds for the good idea. I was just storing mine in a cardboard box that nicely fit the sets I own.

Mine are stacked in the cardboard shipping box they come in from the Mint. Does a good job as far as I'm concerned.
