I am going to be in Philly over the summer and I really have no interest in touring the mint, but if anyone who has been there, is the gift shop any different from what is sold online? Is there more to offer at the mint? Thanks
It's been a few years, but I think the offerings are similar. The advantages to the gift shop are that you can have the items in hand immediately. BTW, if you head to the gift shop, you might as well take the tour. It's self-guided, and does not take all that long. BTW2, if you go to the tour or the gift shop, do not have a camera with you. This includes smartphones.
I visited the Philidalphia mint in April. The gift shop does have much more than the mint website. They have coin jewelry/watches, a change machine where you can put in a dollar and get the latest ATB quarters, and also a machine that will give you the latest presidential dollars at face value. They also have coin albums, books, clothing, magnets, and gifts for kids. At the last part of the tour you can see the 5 oz. pucks being made. Looks like each one is individually processed by hand.
