I believe it is the Mint set (as opposed to the Proof set) that the US Mint ships in a tightly sealed cardboard box. For the last few years I've been leaving them in the box thinking this would increase the value (since most people would open them). However, it's obviously getting hard to track them as there's no markings on the boxes. Does it diminish the value to remove them? If so, what would be a good way to keep them organized? Thank you.
It shouldn't effect the value of the set if you remove the container that the mint sets are in. Also you can use a black marker to write on the box so you know what is what.. BTW wwelcome to the forum
Thanks for the quick response. It is the one they are shipped in. I also thought about using a marker but then decided against it since that would also probably diminish the value.
Surpisingly enough shipping cartons can add value to things. But they need to be kept in nearly pristine condition. And it's usually many, many years later before they add any value. Storage of these is difficult at best because of many things. That said, if it were me; and if I did not want my coins to tone. Then I would even remove the Proof coins from the cardboard sleeve that holds the plastic inserts. Of course you have to carefully store those cardboard sleeves as well.
