Just got mine back from NGC and was interested to see if my thinking the 50 cent proofs would be the sleeper with lowest numbers in PF70 so I checked the populations on PCGS and NGC. NGC: 50 cent proof, 1230 total, 223 PF70, 979 PF69 $1 proof, 2269 total, 232 PF70, 2024 PF69 $1 UNC, 1387 total, 1024 MS70, 363 MS69 50 cent UNC, 986 total, 177 MS70, 789 MS69 PCGS: 50 cent proof, 245 total, 38 PF70, 206 PF69 $1 proof, 2141 total, 319 PF70, 1733 PF69...they even had 3 at PF66!! 50 cent UNC, 140 total, 66 MS70, 74 MS69 $1 UNC, 231 total, 142 MS70, 89 MS69
so 17.7% 50c PF70 rate across both companies, but the $1 PF70 rate is 12.5% across both companies (10.2% at NGC!)
Very interesting in deed. So if someone is knowledgable in moderns, where is this stacking up with other issues?
Apmex is buying at $1.00 over silver melt price for modern commemoratve silver dollar graded pcgs ms69 and proof 69. How much does collectors losses for sending their coins to grade it. Ex: spot silver at $16.50/ounce. Buying price for the above mentioned is $13.76 each silver dollar. While the raw coin is only $13.01 each.
