I hope they make a nice silver based proof of some kind too.

History repeats itself, even in Uruguay I guess. Now I'm even happier that I bought this coin in the first place!! I think they used this Puma in 1830 and 1930 and 1942. I don't know for certain as I just found out about this coin when I bought it a few weeks ago.

BTW: Why does Uruguay always reference Oriental on their coins?

I dont believe there was any Uruguay coinage minted in 1830 and the first use of the pumas was the 1930 coin you mentioned.

Oriental means "east" and Uruguay is on the eastern side of the Rio de la Plata river. Argentina and Uruguay were spanish settlements/colonies so the split up of the countries in reference to the river to the east is where that comes from. The offical first coinage of Uruguay is the coinage of 1840 and 44 as their independance was in 1830. There is a silver "Peso Fuerte" and some large copper coins, all very rare from those years. But I have lately seen some coinage attributed to Uruguay from the 1812-15 though I believe it is spanish based. There are some Reales from this region, also very rare and valuable though they are often attributed as primarily argentinian, though technically while still colonies it could be considered either or/both. Those Reales dont list either country instead list Settlements of the Rio De La plata. An example is on my intermidate buy list.

Cool, I stand corrected. When I bought my coin there was also a 10 centavos coin listed for sale on ebay and I understood it to be a centenario commemorative, but I guess I have my years messed up. Anyways, I wish I would have bought that dime as well, cause it was really nice. Here's some other coinage from Uruguay. Cool looking coins!! :D
