I am not sure if this has been discussed before on here but I wanted to share this. Awhile back I signed up for this UPS My Choice program. It is free and I get a lot of packages from UPS. You can track your packages online and do other things like put holds on a package or change delivery locations. If a package is being sent to you, you will get a message sent to you computer or iphone letting you know when it is coming and when it was dropped off and where. I know some will ask, how do they know to contact you and my answer is "it must be magic". But the problem has alway been when I get a package that requires a signature. But on this past Friday, I get a notice that a package is coming from the UPS from the mint. I know this is my two proof sets and I'm ticked that someone will have to sign for them. In the past, they won't even allow you to sign the door sticker, it has to be signed in person. Well I go on to this My Choice link and I am able to "allow" them to leave the package anywhere I want without a signature. You have to sign your life away saying that they are absolutely not responsible if anything disappears, but I just had them leave it at my house. And since I get a message on my phone immediately after it is delivered, I know that it is there. It beats having to wait until 7PM to run across town and get the package at the UPS depot. Anyone else have luck with this feature?
Yeah, I actually signed up for My Choice so I could get the narrower delivery-window report on my Mint package. I wasn't entirely sure that we'd be able to have someone there for it, but I decided I wasn't comfortable signing away responsibility for this particular package. As it turned out, they delivered it about half an hour before the start of the delivery window. Fortunately, the rest of my family was home.
I don't trust anything to be left anywhere that's not secured. It all goes to the PO Box, and I get delivery notices to pick up at the counter or at the dutch doors when the counter is closed. I just can't trust packages being left behind after having 2 items stolen after being left by FEDEX (not coins). Talk about bold!
It seems like the local news reports these sorts of thefts a couple of times a week. Most of the time the homeowner has a camera pointed directly out from the front porch and you can see the thieves boldly walk up and swipe the unsecured boxes. Unfortunately, I don't know how often these people get caught, even when their face is plain as day on the camera.
FEDEX I've never had a problem with, while I refuse to use FEDEX Ground, contracted service and they won't even get out of the truck, just chuck that Kennedy at your front door, my area UPS is just as bad, no sig. left on doorstep, my local USPS, is right on the money, I know, weird, they like sigs. personal delv.
