The Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee met yesterday to discuss a large portfolio of images for consideration as possible obverse and reverse designs for the 2017 20th Anniversary American Eagle Platinum Proof Coin, the 2017 American Liberty High Relief Gold Coin and Silver Medal, and the 2017 Boys Town Centennial Commemorative Coin Program. The committee’s recommendations are provided below, with brief descriptions based on narratives provided by the U.S. Mint. The Commission of Fine Arts will also review the design candidates tomorrow, March 17, after which time they will put forward their own choices to be considered by the Treasury. The 2017 APE Reverse seems, um, kinda plain. Not buying it. MUCH prefer the 2015 APE Reverse: But maybe my opinion is a bit biased because I've got one.
Obverse & Reverse are the same as 1997. Okay. But they said, "...this reverse, designed by Thomas D. Rogers, Sr., has not been issued on a platinum Proof coin since its introduction in 1997. But that's misleading. The same Reverse appeared on other platinum coins, like this: So it's certainly not a one-year-only design. Anyway, I don't see it as a premium design, to celebrate the 20th anniversary.
even the high relief coin is coming out again in 2017. the mint will find a few customers this time too. i wish we could sell gold at 400$ over spot. Thank god i did not buy the 2015.
