Hello everyone, Well I ended up sending it to Anacs. I just got off the phone with the gentleman there, and
he told me that the coin was very lightly cleaned at some time. They graded it Au 58 details! I believe this is the only Au 58 1875-cc graded by them, So I am very pleased with the decision. I am going to prob sell through heritage so we shall see what happens. I am just so happy it is real! Also I have heard that this coin
has one of the best strikes in exsitance! Thank you so much everyone for all your help! Tommy

    Tommy,

I am very, very glad for you that the coin came back as genuine! However, I do disagree with ANACS grade of AU-58 details even if it did have a light cleaning at one time! IMHO, the coin has much better details (MS-62 or MS-63) and even with a downgrade for the light cleaning, would not equate to an AU-58.

In any event, the $25,000 or more possible price at auction with Heritage, is a lot better than the $1,500 that the shister Coin Dealer offered! I am glad that you accepted and used some of the advice offered here on Coin Talk and did not sell the coin to the Dealer!

When you consign the coin to Heritage, make note of the extremely nice details and have them talk this point up in any Pre-Auction and Auction literature and catalogs.

    Hi Tommy,

What a great story (respectfully)! How did you come across this coin? I remember reading your previous thread when you first approached the guys in the forum for help with it, but I don't remember what the story was behind this.

I think that most people only dream of making a find like this where it's worth so much money.

Congrats, Tommy ! What an exciting and interesting storyline on this one.

I agree with huntsman... for some reason, ANACS seems to have a ceiling at AU58 if the coin has been cleaned. I don't agree with them. The details are what they are. Grade the details on their merits, note the "cleaned" status, and let the marketplace set the price.

Yes, that's a sharply struck piece at a branch mint known for weak strikes. I felt it was an MS-62 myself.

    Again, congratulations ! Vicarious joy.

    Tommy!
Sooo glad to hear the news!!! I suggest that if you are going to sell it you get in contact with Heritage. They might even be able to cross it over to an NGC holder as that might mean more $$ for you and them!

Again---so glad to hear the good news!!!

Congratulations on the grade! I agree with Speedy. When consigning with Heritage, I would definitely see if it is possible to get that coin crossed to NGC. ANACS is known to be rather tough on gold at times, and if you can get anymore point out of the coin (like a 61-62) it could me thousands of extra dollars.

However, you definitely have a winner already!

    Tommy,

I agree with Speedy and Shortgapbob about seeing if Heritage can get the coin crossed-over into an NGC holder and get a higher grade! I know that NGC like PCGS normally does not grade cleaned or problem coins but it is worth a shot! Heck, they have graded other coins in the past that definitely had more than just an old light cleaning. The real gist of the matter, is if the coin gets at least an MS-61 from NGC, then the Auction bid price could almost or possibly even double from what you could expect for an AU-58 in an ANACS holder.

Thanks guys, you all have been great! The coin is coming back slabbed and it will say AU 58 details then underneath the 1875-cc it will say cleaned on the holder. So if it is crossgraded, whoever gets it will allready
know it was cleaned at one time. I just hope that people will look passed the "cleaning" a little and appreciate
the coin for how beautiful she is. 11,800 made and it is graded in the top 10 or so, with quite possibly the
best strike out of all 96 that have been graded. There have been only 3 I believe that have been graded MS. 2-ms61 and 1 ms63. So what are your feelings on it? I am just very excited, and I have found a new
    hobby!! Thanks, Tommy

Absolutely. You have little to lose (the cost of a submission; less than $30) and MUCH to gain. There is no way they will downgrade your coin when crossing, so you are "locked in" at a minimum grade of AU58 cleaned.

Pretty lofty status for a piece like this.

Some people think that the TPGs give Power Players like Heritage a little preferential treatment over The Little Guys like us, but I don't know about that. If so, that can only help you when submitting through them.

And you're right... there have been only 2 MS '75-CCs ever certified - one at PCGS and one at NGC. With a piece as nice as this one, I'm thinking "lightly cleaned" won't hold you back as badly as with more common pieces. This is a very tough date; if someone really wants this issue, they don't come easy. Certainly not as sharp as this one.

    Good luck !

CONGRATULATIONS!!! Glad to hear the news. I would certainly talk to heritage to see if they could work with NGC on a cross over grading.

Then you might as well leave it in the ANACS holder. NGC or PCGS will body bag the coin.

Even if there is only a 0.1% chance that they would grade it, the odds are that they SHOULD submit it. With the possible increase being $2,000 and up ($15,000?) even if PCGS or NGC does nothing more then slab it as AU, imo it would pay to submit it and keep trying. I realize that is contrary to the true collector's thinking, but he is trying to sell it, not collect it.

I wouldn't be surprised if whoever buys it submits it to PCGS to see. It is a beautiful coin./

I understand, but NGC and PCGS are even more strict than ANACS is when it comes to cleaning. And since the slab is already marked Cleaned - they would just return it. Thus making the effort a waste of time.

If I were betting, I would bet you are correct. I would even give odds that it would be bagged. However, the upside is so great that I believe that it is worth trying. If it were mine to sell, I might send it in so often they might grade it just so they would not get it again. Even going from NGC AU-55 to PCGS AU-55 appear to have gained $7,000. ( Both sold in 2005 on Heritage.) Who knows? Maybe you will catch them on a bad (good?) day and they might grade it.

I may be there, but I doubt that they let the 'rift-raft' look at their coins.
