Well we finally know more details! The Chronicles Set goes on sale October 15th (12 pm ET) at a price of $55.95. As we already know, only 50,000 sets will be available. There will be a limit of 1 set per household.

Awesome. This will be the best flipping opportunity since the Lincoln Silver Dollars came out in February. I think it might be a good Christmas this year after all :)

    Thank you mint.

Maybe I'm missing something but the most recent ebay sale (today) was $56 for a proof, and you can buy the 4 pennys for $9. Where's the flipping opportunity?

I wonder if you can do a subscription for these items and avoid the clogged website thing?

Wow! $55.95 for $1.04 face value. Are we being taken advantage of?

Very nicely done set in my opinion. To the OP'er, i just double checked and there's a limit of only one per household. You are right about the 50,000 limit on production. Get the neighbors and relatives ready to start ordering Oct 15th!
To all you poo-pooers please dont buy any. More for me!

This is the set that I've been waiting for. I must find a few relatives to buy me a set if they are restricting sales to one per household. This is the big one! It will sell out like a Rolling Stones concert.

The whole 12:00pm eastern release time is sort of a bummer. I'm at work during the day and don't always have access to a computer to be ordering coins :) Was going to have a family member do it for me, but they all live in Hawaii now, not sure any of them will be at their computer at 6:00am to buy me some coins, haha!!! Hopefully it just doesn't sell out that fast though I expect it to sell out by the end of release day.

The opportunity is not a sum of the parts but the collectible as a whole. Limited to 50,000, nice leatherette presentation case, copy of the Gettysburg address, one of the most loved Presidents of all time, highly anticipated release ...crys out winner...but only time will tell.

I'm a betting man and I'm betting that this will sell out in less than an hour and go for double on ebay by 3pm the same day it's released.

The only ones that will be taken advantage of are those that don't pay issue price at 12noon and will pay more once it sells out. How much more ..will be interesting to see.

Can there really be more than 50,000 collectors who want one of these???? If so, then market prices will rise as demand exceeds supply.

I have no doubt it will sell out, but not because collectors have bought them all. It will be because the flippers have friends and family buy for them 10, 20, 50 or more of these forcing a much quicker than natural sell out.

Same thing happened to the first few First Spouse Gold coins that sold out right away because the flippers were enticed with the low 20k mintage of each uncirculated and proof coin. After some trading amongst the flippers, it became clear that there were not 20,000 collectors that wanted each of these coins and the premiums disappeared.

I know I want a set (and just one!!), because I think it's cool and I didn't buy any of the 2009 Lincoln commemoratives since I was waiting to get it with this set. But the question remains whether there are 49,999 others like myself who actually want one of these to keep. If so, they will continue to sell for a premium well after the flippers have made their profits.

I think there will be many more than 50,000 collectors after these. The Lincoln commemerative was quite popular and has held a pretty good premium so far with a much higher mintage. I dont think you can compare this set to the spouses. Lincoln is much more collectible and the cost is very affordable compared to gold.

One can only hope. I've been flipping for 3 years now in order to help put food on my families table and to keep the roof over their heads. The Lincoln dollar was very good to me and paid for my heat last winter, now I hope that this Lincoln will give my kids a turkey dinner this Thanksgiving and a few new clothes at Christmas. Opportunities like this don't come around very often.

Most modern u.s.mint Coins go down in value within 3 years of release heads up, In Sept 2012 this set will be worth $100 big deal !

I would think that the OGP would be the key part of this item. You can get the coins everywhere, but there will only be 50,000 of the packaging. Surely the grading companies will come out with the set slab, and those that opt to go that route should be able to sell their packaging for the bigger part of it's cost. IMO....

The big deal is not to wait 3 years.
The big deal is to buy at issue and sell at the peak of the feeding frenzy to maximize the earning potential.

It's all market timing. Buy and hold does not work here.

This 'packaging' factor was my issue with the 8-8-8 double prosperity gold set. Yes, that set was a good buy at the time for the coins and gold value when the Mint had them on sale. However, I think it's just weak marketing tactics being employed to sell a 'limited' number of sets for the same product available in other forms but for the packaging. I really wish that coins sold by the US Mint came in their various form with the option NOT to buy the packaging. I'd love to get Proofs and such special products, commems, etc. for a few dollars less, cheaper shipping and only in the Mint's plastic encapsulation holders. Collecting products due to packaging is akin to toy collectors who covet the mint condition boxes as much or more than the toy within or slab collectors who buy the slab and not 100% because of the coin. I feel that any of these Mint products in special set packaging with limited quantities are hyped to command a sell out and the value or premium for a coin based on packaging are misvalued on the secondary market. It's very wrong and misguiding for collectors or people who buy such products for collectors and are not understanding the value or what they should only be spending to acquire the coins. Likewise there may exist a potential future issue with packaging that has been counterfeited and sets reassembled from the greater mintage of these coins available. Just my two cents on this. Thanks.
