A little contest to enjoy during your holiday time off, or if you just need some time off from your holiday. The list of ten scrambled letter strings below represents a challenge to find the two coin terms tangled in each. There will be one to three additional vowels thrown in to each jumble to make this harder. Those additional letters can be discarded. The terms are common U.S. coin terminology, however the two terms in each tangle are ill-matched, again, to increase difficulty in descrambling the text. For instance: ktseioub = Ike Bust [Ike dollars and Bust Half dollar - additional 'o'] aeleaidgimr = Large Dime [as in Large Cent and Dime - additional 'a' and 'i'] CONTEST RULES: • Must have a post count of at least 50 posts and less than 10,000 posts to play. • Must post answers in this thread. NO need to PM answers. • One guess per contestant per 24 hours. This means you can post your set of 10 answers in one post per day, not just one or a few of the scrambles you think you may have figured out. Use the time stamp on your first post as your 24 hour time cycle for future posts, if necessary. • No editing of posts. Edited posts will be disqualified for the day. • Absolutely NO word descrambler web sites should be used. That's cheating and robs your brain of a fun task. Just try to do it manually. • Contest will run until we have a winner. • There will be no ties. First contestant to post all ten word pairs correctly wins the prize. PRIZE: 1934-S WLH with scratched obverse and reverse. Photos to come. This contest inspired by similar past contests held by: Abe and ryanbrooks. Thanks guys. Descramble the text: 1. rdmsneaiaeotog 2. chibabgflifuyoetor 3. edededephrlais 4. yrreeyallbiihdcito 5. pecadniodaniepe 6. asrdeorbantbagnyi 7. urlunmfcugeyiray 8. idderieebiecpaai 9. koenitemaracenl 10. sarueatwlelotih *** Please read and follow the rules above. Good luck! ***
I hope so! I worked to make 'em that way... give it your best effort, there's a silver prize awaiting the winner! :smile "I meant to do that... heh, heh!" The only left over letters will be vowels that I added for difficulty, as detailed in the first post. So that means this answer is not correct. There is another possibility. nah... Good luck everyone. Looks like you all have your work cut out for you. :smile
They are tough! I've got four of them so far but I'm so tired now I can't concentrate anymore. Good luck everyone! Great contest, Krispy!:thumb:
Yes, sir, this is a toughie. Mostly words jump out in puzzles like this, but not this time. Being unfamiliar with much of the terminology, I believe I will just watch to see how it unfolds. Great job at making it hard! Lucy
Thanks everyone for giving these jumbles a try. Seems this contest will run for a while due to the level of difficulty and there will be plenty of time to work on answers.
This is not an entry, I just wanted to qualify something; does the letter "y" count as a vowel? For one of them I've got something that -might- be right, but it would require the omission of the letter y as one of the extra vowels? I'm assuming "y" is not considered a vowel, though? edit: Also, what happens if someone finds 8 or 9 of the words, and someone else sweeps in and solves all 10 (copying 8 or 9 of the scrambles previously solved?). I know it's only a contest, but It'd suck if you posted 7 or 8 of the right answers, only to have someone else grab your work, solve the last three scrambles, and win the prize
My thoughts exactly. Undoubtedly there's going to be some doubling (has to be as multiple people get the same answer). I agree with cube.
cubenewb/lincolncent: This is something I have already considered when drafting this contest, and as you've discovered, it would be to one's best advantage to only post when you are confident you have all 10* jumbles correct so as not to expose your work to such opportunity that may be beneficial to your competitors in this contest. You have to calculate the risk of certainty you feel you have in your answers before posting. I advise not to post answers one-by-one, or 7 or 8 seeking confirmation that they are correct, but to complete all 10, then post a guess. Without the entire 10 correct you would not be a winner anyway. When you post your list of answers, if there are incorrect answers, I will only say "incorrect" but will not identify which are correct/incorrect. While this partially protects your work from having inaccuracies identified, it could expose your work to someone else on the cusp of figuring out their list of 10 scrambles. Yes, someone else could swoop in and win the contest because you helped them in this way. * "This means you can post your set of 10 answers in one post per day, not just one or a few of the scrambles you think you may have figured out."
