I am looking for some help on a coin or token from Senegal. I have looked in Krause and it only lists coins from Senegal from the 1960`s. So i suppose this could be some sort of token. It is dated 1921 with a palm tree on the obverse, the reverse has a value of 50 cents with the wording Chambre De Commerce ZIGUINCHOR. And it also has the name J BORY under the value. It measures almost 1 inch across and appears to be made out of brass. If anyone can shed some light on this ie: token or coin and its value. Thankyou.
Senegal, KM#Tn17, token issue for the city of Ziguinchor, brass, VG=$22.00, F=$40.00, VF=$80.00, XF=$180.00
Thanks for that quick reply. I take it from the KM that stands for Krause Mischler. Does that mean that Krause do a token book?
Krause uses Yoeman numbers when available, along with a few other established numbering systems, and assigns its own KM numbers the rest of the time. Tokens, Patterns, Leprosarium coins, and other special issues and exonumia is sometimes included by Krause, following the regular coin listings. In the case of Senegal, the 2005 32nd Ed. lists Standard Coinage on p. 1841. Token Coinage is on pp. 1841-42, and Essais, Mint Sets and Proof Sets are on p. 1942.
