Unusual Rupee w/Pagan Sun

    Here is one which you don't see every day. An Indore Rupee, 23mm and 11g with a 'Wicker Man (1973 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0070917/)' face on it. I guess it was the emperor's idea as there are a few more out there in numisland... :D

    Those are really interesting.It makes me wonder if the concept of putting images taken from nature is from the earliest Indian coins.You may remember the karshapana silver pieces I posted last year which had various images of flowers,leaves,suns and moons etc. stamped onto them.

    Maybe, but I think the Greeks had pics of trees and vines around 500 BC. I think the 1st coins are attributed to Turkey in around 700-600 BC. Some of these feature the Asian Lion, so... ;)

    The year of the coin is AH1185 = AD1771
