Unusual Rupee w/Pagan Sun

Here is one which you don't see every day. An Indore Rupee, 23mm and 11g with a 'Wicker Man (1973 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0070917/)' face on it. I guess it was the emperor's idea as there are a few more out there in numisland...

Here's one Of my Indore rupees. Minted at Malharnagar in 1809.

 

Those are really interesting.It makes me wonder if the concept of putting images taken from nature is from the earliest Indian coins.You may remember the karshapana silver pieces I posted last year which had various images of flowers,leaves,suns and moons etc. stamped onto them.

 

Maybe, but I think the Greeks had pics of trees and vines around 500 BC. I think the 1st coins are attributed to Turkey in around 700-600 BC. Some of these feature the Asian Lion, so...
