Unusual find for me

Discussion in 'Error Coins' started by Richard Murphy, Feb 2, 2019.

  1. Should have posted this under roll searches but thought I would get a better response here. Found this 2018S Jefferson and wanted your opinions on it. I had never seen a coin like this where the the featureson both sides appear to be in a matt type finish.

Any info you gould give me would be 2018 S obv.jpg 2018 S rev.jpg greately appreciated.

It looks like an impaired reverse proof to me, too! This is the first time I have ever seen a proof nickel that was found in circulation.

Not a reverse proof. Just a circulated dcam proof. Cool find!!!

Yes, I see that now, but why are the devices golden in color?

I assume there's warm (orange) light coming in from the left, and cooler (white) light overhead. Incandescent table lamp or flashlight in a fluorescent-lit room, maybe?

  9. The color is actually grey but I couldn't get my lighting to show the correct color.

Did you try adjusting your White Balance?

Impaired proof. Not a circulation issue.

I myself never knew what to do with proofs found in circulation. The high luster as well as the satin texture are so easily damaged.

I'm sure some have value especially considering the type and content of the proof but that is all lost on me as I find myself more occupied on pondering why.

  14. Hope these pictures are better.
