Unusual 1946 Penny - looks like a ring going around it.

    I came across this penny which looks like it has a metal ring attached around it. At one part, theres an extra piece of metal sticking out which you can see in the last picture. Its not damage from the ring.

    Anyone else seen these? What can you tell me about it?

    It's inside a bezel (I think that is what it is called). Used for jewelry at some point.

    Yes, sounds correct. Most likely was someone's birth year or some special year with significance to only that person. It's an interesting piece, though. Why not make a charm out-of-it yourself?! :)

    This was my first thought when i saw it, especially with the lil bit that sticks out....but then i asked myself who would want to make jewelry out of a penny :p

    Just as was stated earlier, a memento or souvenir of some sort.

    I have found them like this before that were gold plated for charm bracelets.
