Hi. I was lucky enough to find a full roll of silver quarters when I bought a roll of quarters for laundry from the bank. In the roll was one coin from 1937 that had a 'R' stamped into the design on both sides. (see picture below) Does anyone know anything about this? Did someone deface the coin? I'm looking for advice about this and the other quarters (which mostly seem to be in VF to F condition) as I would like to sell them. Any and all advice is appreciated.:smile

You have a counterstamped coin. It was done by someone after the quarter was minted. Some people still do this, such as this guy: http://www.penny.greatnow.com

There are people who collect counterstamped coins, including some people I have heard of who try to put together a full alphabet of single letters counterstamped into coins.

If you put it on ebay, you might get a slight premium over a regular junk silver quarter.

by the way, CONGRATULATIONS on getting a roll of silver quarters at face value! That would make my month!

Congrats on getting a roll of silver quarters. Your $10 for laundry just made you about $50 profit. And you also got a neat counterstamp coin.

Sorry to say that someone destroyed a silver quarter! Smithrow, love the avatar. Poughkeepsie Railroad and Mid-Hudson bridges, right? I live in your area, too.

Crispy your correct it is the Poughkeepsie RR Bridge and Mid-Hudson Bridge. I took the picture after rowing practice last year.

I'm so stupid I thought it was the Bear Mountian Bridge. The Hudson is the most beautiful river. In fact, in may ways, you haven't seen a river until you travel the Hudson.

Swam it it several times. Just not down near here, where Interstate traffic poisons it.... Up in Warren County. The Hudson River Bridges are nice. Rowing practice... Cool.
