I was just wondering if there are any sites dedicated to set Registrys, that feature coins Raw? I hardly have any slabbed coins, and Most of mine are AU - low MS, so they don't warrant the slabbing prices. Although I still really want to participate in a registry. Is this possible?
I've never heard of a Registry like that for raw coins. Seems like it would be hard to compete with other collectors if the owner provides their own grades based on their own standards. But it would be nice if there was a place you could inventory and keep track of you raw coins and share your collection, but maybe without the competition aspect that exists on the registry sets because of the third party grades.
True, it would be difficult. Perhaps you could make it so the users themselves submit heir opinions of the grade? Let's say I posted a coin I thought was MS 62 RB. Then I would register it as 1907 H Large cent, MS 62RB User defined. Then the other users would use a poll like option to submit their opinion on the grade, and it would find an average of all submitted grades?
I think it would be impossible to do - even with a poll how would you handle "no grades" or "non-gradeable". I can see a lot of issues with a site like this. Now what I think would be really cool - is all coins "MUST" be raw and must include pictures. Then I would have a really cool site to surf.
That would be interesting. I just really enjoy the competitive side of the registry, but can't justify getting a 100$ (which is where a lot of my coins value at) coin slabbed. Not to mention the customs business I have to deal with. I think it would be do-able with an advanced User defined grading option.
Something I'm going to look into is Signature Sets at NGC. For various reasons I've got sets of coins that don't fit any of the established NGC Registry Sets. But I believe the Signature Sets allow you to build sets to your own criteria. I suspect you don't get any points for your coins. You just get to show them. Whether they have to be slabbed or not, I don't know. And I may have the whole thing wrong. But it's worth a look.
NGC Signature Sets allow you to define the content of the set as you want. The coins do have to be slabbed by either NGC, PCGS or NCS. Perhaps you should take a look at omnicoin. You can display your set and specify the grade and other information about the coins.
