Wildwinds list this coin of Claudius Gothicos as " Rare and apparently unpublished ". The reverse shows 2 veiled figures standing and facing each other, holding torch and corn ears. CONCOR AUG. It weighs 3 g. Antioch RIC 200 v. While the coin is described as a silver antoninianus, mine seems of bronze, I think. Please post your views. Thanks..
I think it's Cohen 40, listed on Wildwinds as RIC 258 var(2), due to the radiate head left. The reverse is CONSECR AVG, Jupiter standing left, looking right, holding thunderbolt and sceptre, looking at Juno, standing left, holding patera and sceptre. Antoniniani of this period have very low silver content due to many rounds of debasement, and a silver "wash" (i.e. coating) that has worn off; so the bronze look is normal.
Yours is nicer than the image on wildwinds: http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/ric/claudius_II/RIC_0258var2.jpg And it's listed as "Rare" (R) on Helvetica's RIC lists: http://www.catbikes.ch/coinstuff/coins-ric.htm Certainly a cool coin! Constantine the Great claimed to be a descendant of Claudius Gothicus, maybe because of the latter's famous military successes. Claudius's reign was the beginning of an upswing in the Empire's fortunes after many disasters and civil wars in the mid 3rd century.
