Unplated 1958-d wheat cent??

    I got this wheat penny that is apparently unplated. I have done some looking but can't find anything on it.

    It actually probably has been plated. It should be solid bronze, it wasn't until 1982 that cents were copper plated.

    These aren't plated to begin with; they're alloy. It was a common science classroom activity to electroplate Cents.

    It looks like it went to a coal mine and survived. Hey, it's important for a coal worker to come out alive!

    You should buy yourself a Red Book if you don't have one. Weight, composition and mintage are just a few of the things that are noted for every denomination.

    I'm pretty sure there's a Red Book in the photographs.
