Pump your brakes and slow your roll. After over 550 previous positive buyer feedback with a 100% rating on Ebay buying some very expensive coins over the last 8 years, I had a seller open an unpaid item case on me today. Won the auction at 8:45pm EST on 9/30 and by 9:45pm today 10/2 the seller open a case against me. Nothing in his listing about immediate payment or payment within 3 days or 7 days. Now I immediately took care of it after receiving a message from Ebay that the seller opened a case on me. Give me a break. 2 days and you open a unpaid item case. WOW. No I will not name the seller. They do have some coins I hope too add to my collection so do not want to stir it up with them. Just needed to vent
There is a new thing for sellers where after payment is not received, a case automatically gets opened without the seller having to do anything anymore. He might have had a bunch of unpaid items and just set it up, or maybe he changed his settings and didn't know he set it up. In any event don't think nothing of it, enjoy your coin when you get it, and if you feel so inclined send the seller a message asking when he / she typically expects payment. Harmless stuff if worded right.
I have actually had a few opened on me lately. Ebay is pushing automatic unpaid item assist on sellers. It is not a requirement (yet), and I think it is bad business. It might help them (being automated), but is bad customer service. I won a coin late Friday, and planned on paying before Monday. Why pay when they won't ship until then anyways? Well, Sunday came around, and it opened a case on me. I dinged him for bad communication.
I never understood the philosophy people have of purchasing something on ebay and waiting days to pay for it. Honestly speaking your ebay account isn't a credit card. If you you commit to purchase an item, you should pay in a prompt and precise manner.
I got one of those when I bought something on Friday. I think I had the case opened on Monday. To be honest, I was busy and forgot. I didn't buy it, simply because Im vindictive like that. I have a good history on eBay though. They wiped it off. Edit: huh, it looks like if you open an unpaid item case it closes based on the date you filed. I guess it makes sense to stay on top of things. Now he has halfway through Oct. to pay for a lot of circ. walkers that are sitting in my desk. O well.
I'm sure there were other things on my mind. Besides, it's the weekend. I forget if I was out somewhere but if I win something I'll pay. Just, next business day is a bit ridiculous to complain about no payment.
I completely agree. When I buy something on eBay I pay right away. I hate it when other do not. Really makes no sense to me. If you don't have the money don't buy the item.
SleazeBay doesn't care about the seller. SleazeBay doesn't care about the buyer. All SleazeBay cares about is getting their share of the money. Chris
I don't understand the issue(s) here. 1) It's automated. eBay sends you a notification reminder to pay. Then X days after that reminder, you get the NPB flag. 2) It's not a communication issue unless you notify the seller that you're going to take a bit to pay. I do this at the start of cycles, so I don't end up with unspent eBay Bucks sitting in my account. The only reason I know it's automated is I noticed the last time I sold some coins that two people got flagged by the NPB system for me. I didn't do anything to initiate it. I also don't think it's necessarily my responsibility to seek out how to turn it off. I don't sell things very often, and when I do, I set my prices at what I'd like to get for the item, so if someone bids on my items, they usually get it for the start price. I do it this way so there are no real surprises for the buyer nor myself.
An unpaid item case is now automatically opened for you as a seller if a buyer does not pay within a set amount of time. As a seller you have the option of deselecting this feature. You actually have to go into your seller dashboard settings and de-select the automatic opening of the case. The default setting is 72 hours. But you can set it as low as 48 hours. If I'm reading your post correctly it sounds like his opened at 48 hours. I understand people can get busy so I leave it at 3 days. Don't take it personally. In fact here's a crazy idea...how about paying for something the moment you win it? That's what I do. It's just the way I was raised.
That would work, if I were like... on eBay 24/7. I have the moile app which helps but sometimes I don't hve my phone. I do things other than watch my bids. Funny thing, I won a CNG auction and they had my old email so they had to call me to tell me I won. I had no idea -- I bid a lot and I usually lowball it. Keeping track of every auction at every time of day isn't very practical for me. Also, I think eBay gave this guy 2 weeks and I got 2 days? Wow. Yeah, I probably want to tweak stuff. A week isn't asking much.
I bid on multiple items every single day. There is literally no way I can be at my computer throughout the day, and pay immediately. I wait until the end of the day to pay for that days purchases. If I win late on Friday, I usually wait until Sunday. This does not inconvenience the seller at all. It makes it so much easier to click on "pay" once per day, rather than 5-10 times per day. It also means if I am bidding on several items from one seller, I can combine shipping. And yes, if their auction does not state you have to pay immediately or they will open an unpaid item dispute, then it IS a communication issue.
I agree with jwitten. Life happens man. I usually set up Ebay snipes once or twice a week. I am a busy man. I am supposed to instantly react to a winning bid notification email from Ebay to drop everything to pay? Dude, I get like 150 emails a day, many of them requiring my attention. I have never not paid, and I get to it when I get to it. If the sellers have a problem with it then maybe they should just sell to someone else if they are that hyper about timing.
I like to pay right away if I win, but that does not mean everyone needs to. That being said, IMO, if you are bidding on an item, it's YOUR responsibility to pay for the item. If you can take the time to bid on an item, you can take the time to check and see if you won. Once a day would be plenty, IMO. I too place many bids in many places, but it's my responsibility to keep track of them. I understand that sh*t happens and you can forget at times, but to make it a practice is bad form. How would you feel if your employer forgot to pay you? Oh, I'm sorry, is it the 15th again? I completely forgot. I'll get around to paying you in a few days. No worries. You'll get it. (rant over)
I think we're all on the same page. You should pay in a "timely" manner. Timely =/= a day or two, esp. weekends. Keeping track of everything is good but isn't always practical.
