Unknown Rare Coin Anyone have any clue what this is? I dug it up from the ground in a garden in Northeast, Ohio.
I guess we can rule out Roman. The wreath looks familar but I can't place it. Maybe someone will recognize it? :thumb: It looks like there's a date - 1701 or 1770? :kewl: Ribbit
Best chance, an old two piece button. In the last photo: look at the center, see the circle? That is normally done to center the area where the loop is attached, and that is exactly where that center 'dot' (actually: tiny circle) is located. Then the design around the circle is normal. So, my bet: button.
It description of the coin on this page is a very close resemblance of what I have. http://www.badarchaeology.net/data/ooparts/peoria.php
The bottom photo reminds me of this: I honestly can't even tell what language is on it, can you clean it more?
Way back in about 1770 BC, the ancient Japanese landed on what they thought was China only it turned out to be OHIO and in the morning. This is why when they say Ohio Gosiamus it means Good Morning. Many of them tried to use thier coins in vending machines and when they were rejected, they just threw them into the ground and now you found one. :goofer::goofer:
