Well, this seems to be my go to site when I am unable to identify coins that are unlisted on wildwinds & vcoins, I sure would like it if any of you can get the acceptable research on this one??? All I know is I believe it to be a Tacitus coin, wildwinds has no coins with chariot reverses, so that did not help, I'm assuming that it may be somewhat of a rarity??? But I really would like to have the official ID and background. Thank you in advance
http://www.ric.mom.fr/en/coin/4052?...erence=&page=1&hpp=5&mod=result&from=advanced The type is known in gold. Search for quadriga rather than chariot.
As stated above, the type is known in gold and extremely rare (apparently, there are only two known examples). In 2018, Savoca also sold an example of the type in bronze, see here. Although I admittedly lack the expertise necessary to reliably assess their authenticity, I'd intuitively trust neither the Savoca coin nor your example.
A known fake type. There are a couple listed in FORVM’s fake reports. Here’s a link a few: http://www.forumancientcoins.com/fakes/displayimage.php?pos=-10956 http://www.forumancientcoins.com/fakes/displayimage.php?pos=-17567 And some board discussion: http://www.forumancientcoins.com/board/index.php?topic=64788.0
Too bad. It would have been a great coin type if authentic. But them's the breaks...I'll stick with my humble Tacitus.
